A Tale of Blackbeard is a musical play presented occasionally in the summer season as a community theater production on Ocracoke Island, NC. Ocracoke, flanked by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pamlico Sound to the west, is the southernmost sand bank of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The seventeen-mile-long island, accessible only by ferry, is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and includes a small village with a population of about 1000 people.
This site is dedicated to documenting the forty-year history of the play. Each year the show was produced is represented. Original programs, posters, newspaper articles, and photos have been scanned and made available for exploration. Photo credits will be noted as time permits and more content will be forthcoming, so check back frequently.
